Red shoes return to Vinnies
Vinnies WA has received hundreds of red women’s shoes, which were part of an installation during the recent ‘16 Days in WA’ campaign to stop violence against women.
The installation consisted of hundreds of pairs of shoes, which were placed a body length apart, turning the forecourt of WA Museum Boola Bardip into a powerful artwork calling for an end to violence against women in Australia.
The sneakers, boots, stilettos, sandals, pumps and flats formed Los Zaptos Rojos (The Red Shoes) – a collaborative installation that seeks to give a sobering visual presence to women who have lost their lives to femicide.
Vinnies contributed to the installation by sourcing pairs of red women’s shoes from across its stores and its distribution centre.
Forensic scientist and justice campaigner, Dr Paola Magni, who brought the installation to Perth, thanked Vinnies for its support.
“Vinnies came onboard as a partner to help boost individual donations which has ensured our installation represents the diversity of girls and women who are impacted by violence here in Australia,” she said.
Dr Magni visited Ozanam House last week to return the shoes Vinnies provided, and many, many more. They will be sold in Vinnies stores to raise funds for Vinnies services, including those that support women and children escaping family and domestic violence.
