Things can really stack up for a Vinnies volunteer

About Vinnies warehouse operations.

About Vinnies warehouse operations.

The St Vincent de Paul Society Tasmania has warehouse operations across the state. You don’t hear a lot about Vinnies Warehouses, but they are a critical part of our operations. Not a day goes by without the dedicated staff at one of the warehouses being called upon to deliver stock to one of the shops, distribute items to another part of the state, or to ensure that the stock and assets of the Society are secure, sorted, and stored correctly. Hundreds of thousands of items pass in and out of the warehouses every year; and it’s the brilliant team of staff and volunteers that make it all possible. Our warehouses play an important role in supporting our environment by minimising waste and landfill too.

Volunteering in the warehouses is a great way to support the important work of the Society while also developing new skills and gaining valuable experience. The warehouses are responsible for receiving and sorting donations of clothing, furniture, and household goods, which are then distributed to Vinnies stores and other outlets across the state.

Typically, the role of a Vinnies volunteer working in the warehouse may include:

  • Sorting and organising donated items
  • Tagging and pricing items for sale
  • Loading and unloading delivery trucks
  • Assisting with inventory management
  • Cleaning and organising the warehouse space

By volunteering at a Vinnies warehouse, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable skills and experience that can help you build your resume and prepare for future career opportunities. Whether you're looking to change careers or re-join the workforce after a break, volunteering at a Vinnies warehouse can provide you with hands-on experience in areas such as logistics, inventory management, and customer service.

This experience can be particularly valuable for those who are looking to gain new job skills and even help you earn industry-recognized certifications, such as a forklift license. These skills and certifications can increase your chances of landing your career goals, while also making a meaningful contribution to the community. Here are some compelling reasons to consider volunteering at a Vinnies warehouse:

  • Build your resume: Volunteering at a Vinnies warehouse is a great way to add skills to your CV and gain valuable work experience. This experience can be particularly valuable for those who are just starting out in their careers, or for those who are looking to make a career change.
