Compeer Volunteers

Volunteers are Compeer’s most important asset. Without volunteers, there would be no Compeer program. When the needs of our volunteers are met, everybody benefits: our clients, the mental health professionals, and the program.

The Compeer volunteer is an adult who generally gives a minimum of 4 hours per month to build a friendship with someone in need.

Compeer volunteer is not a social worker, mental health professional, a support worker or a chauffeur. The volunteer assists with and enhances the successful re-entry of the Compeer participant into the community by providing individual support and companionship. The volunteer is there to provide meaningful friendship and role modelling outside the mental health setting.

The recruitment process for volunteers involves:

  • Application form
  • Interview
  • 2 reference checks
  • Police check
  • Agreement signing and induction into the Society and Compeer
  • Compeer volunteers must have a current Working With Vulnerable People (WWVP) card.

For further information regarding the role of Compeer volunteers please refer to the Compeer volunteer position description.
